When considering whether to use email marketing to promote a brand, some may think it’s “old fashioned” or “dead” …and we’d have to agree…IF there’s zero engagement with the audience! With the right tools in place, you can grow any type of business with engaging emails! With 4.03 billion people around the world using email in 2021, no other platform comes close to the potential reach of email…so these following tips might just transform your business!

  1. Enticing Visuals

Whether you are accessing your email account from an app on your phone during some downtime or checking your inbox from a computer at work, email has become increasingly accessible for us all. For this reason alone, reaching out to customers about your latest offer or story, gives them a break from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. It’s a form of escapism, so using enticing vibrant colours or ambient hues in your graphic design can transport the viewer to their happy place and encourage them to continue browsing your site.

Colours that help to enable escapism and relaxation: blues, greens, pinks, violets, greys, and yellows.

  1. A Friendly Tone

This is where great copy writing skills come into play! Writing to the reader as though they’re a friend is probably one of the best tips out there for creating powerful and engaging copy. Unless your brand’s shtick is to come off as cold and stern, writing with warmth and comfort is the way to go! Now, there are several ways you can go about this, I like to take on different personas to convey a specific feel and language style.

You could take on more of a parental role, using phrases like ‘join the family’ and ‘come back and see us soon’, creating instant warmth and a sense of home. Taking on the role of the ‘in the know’ friend is another sure-fire way of connecting to the reader, picking phrases like ‘ *insert name* , stay in the know’ and ‘have you seen this?! We really don’t want you to miss out’ stirs up curiosity within the reader and encourages them to read more without feeling too pressured.

  1. Personalisation

Making our customers feel as though we are talking directly to them is actually very easy! If you combine the friendly face with inviting visuals and personalised phrases, you’re onto a winner!

Using the customer’s name in an email is always a great way to personalise your content, showing them that you’re committed to finding the right products for them is equally as important. I recommend using this sort of copy “we picked these out just for you!” and then show them similar items to what they have purchased in the past, it lets them know that you’re attentive and observant!

Giving customers the chance to fill in preference questionnaires is also a great way to tailor what sort of content they’ll receive! This shows that you’re invested in getting to know them.

There’s a whole world out there of ‘what to do’ and ‘what not to do’ when it comes to creating emails to engage your audience. Applying these 3 tips will build the foundation for any brand looking to boost their sales. Just remember, 1. Enticing Visuals, 2. A Friendly Tone, and 3. Personalisation!
